The University of Texas System Open Source Program Office (Texas-OSPO) supports the creation, use, and management of open source software across the UT System.
Initial partners include UT Austin, UT Dallas, UT El Paso, and UT San Antonio. This team will create training and other resources for use by UT System researchers to better understand and support open source software.
Why Open Source?
Open source software is released under a license that grants others the rights to access, use, and modify the source code. In academia, OSS can benefit researchers by allowing for greater sustainability, transparency, collaboration, and is often required by funding agencies.
Why an Open Source Program Office?
Texas-OSPO will be a center of contact and support across the UT system, offering training, research matching, and other resources to UT System researchers at all levels of open source experience. This project will offer consultations, open office hours for discussion, a speaker series featuring case studies of open source projects, and helpful Best Practice documents to support a broad set of questions and use cases.
